What is the Political Courage Test?

Tennessee Congressional Election 2020 Political Courage Test

Pro-life Do you generally support pro-choice or pro-life legislation?
No In order to balance the budget, do you support an income tax increase on any tax bracket?
Yes Do you support expanding federal funding to support entitlement programs such as Social Security and Medicare?
This is in light of the consequences of the COVID pandemic especially on the seniors.
Yes Do you support the regulation of indirect campaign contributions from corporations and unions?
Yes Do you support the protection of government officials, including law enforcement officers, from personal liability in civil lawsuits concerning alleged misconduct?
Qualified protection- if following guidelines or within scope of duty.
No Do you support increasing defense spending?
We need better technology and less boots on the ground across the globe.
Yes Do you support federal spending as a means of promoting economic growth?
Yes Do you support lowering corporate taxes as a means of promoting economic growth?
Yes Do you support providing financial relief to businesses AND/OR corporations negatively impacted by the state of national emergency for COVID-19?
These are needed for economic recovery from COVID, especially small businesses
No Do you support requiring states to adopt federal education standards?
States, in particular the educators (not administrators), are better equipped to develop these standards
Yes Do you support government funding for the development of renewable energy (e.g. solar, wind, geo-thermal)?
Yes Do you support the federal regulation of greenhouse gas emissions?
We have to protect the environment but I want policies that are realistic (in phases rather than aggressive) and financially prudent (not leading to massive jobs losses) to be law,
No Do you generally support gun-control legislation?
No Do you support repealing the 2010 Affordable Care Act ("Obamacare")?
Unknown Position Do you support requiring businesses to provide paid medical leave during public health crises, such as COVID-19?
I do not support government compelling all businesses to provide paid medical leave- if small businesses are exempt from this idea, then I will be more amenable to it (not necessarily support it). Healthcare is a right. It does not matter to me what it is called as long as Americans have access to healthcare and it is affordable. I personally believe the repeal debate is purely partisan. There are aspects of Obamacare that have to be tweaked for sure.
No Do you support the construction of a wall along the Mexican border?
No Do you support requiring immigrants who are unlawfully present to return to their country of origin before they are eligible for citizenship?
I support a mix of walls and technology, after all a wall will not stop underground tunnels. I am against any legislation that separates families or could lead to that.
Yes Should the United States use military force to prevent governments hostile to the U.S. from possessing a weapon of mass destruction (for example: nuclear, biological, chemical)?
Yes Do you support reducing military intervention in Middle East conflicts?
Exhaustion of diplomacy has to precede use of force.
Unknown Position Do you generally support removing barriers to international trade (for example: tariffs, quotas, etc.)?
Removing some but not all
1. Healthcare- improve rural health care thereby increasing access. Incentives for medical practitioners in rural America such as tax breaks and school loan forgiveness 2. Economic Recovery- Grants to small businesses and agricultural sector in particular. This will be done via a relief package. 3. Immigration- we need a common sense approach that takes politics out of the equation. We need to secure the border and address those who are here undocumented, in a humanitarian approach. We need to hire more DHS officials and pay them better.
